Fico: I will not be a minister of war, even if they exclude us from the European Socialists
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Sunday that as long as he is prime minister, he will never allow Slovakia to be involved in a military operation against the Russian Federation. “There are no historical, legal or moral reasons for this,” he said.
He emphasized that if anyone wanted a minister of war who would bang and rattle weapons, they would have to replace him and hold a referendum: “I am a minister of peace.
”The war in Ukraine is not fair to the Ukrainians. The use of force, as Russia has done, was a violation of international law. I say that to Putin too," he stated, recalling the events in Donbass in 2014.
He also personally commemorated the significance of the end of World War II by visiting Russia and China. This was criticized by several European heads of state and government. The European Socialists therefore decided at their congress to exclude Smer from their parliamentary group.
Fico responded by saying that if they wanted to do that, they should go ahead, adding that if the European Union talked as much about peace as it did about war, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia would have ended after three months.
