Russia claims Ukrainian drone attacked nuclear power plant in Voronezh
On Tuesday, Russian state-owned company Rosenergoatom announced that a Ukrainian drone had attempted to strike the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant in the Voronezh region of Russia, near the border with Ukraine. According to the company, the drone was intercepted using technical means and exploded after colliding with a cooling tower.
Rosenergoatom emphasized that there was no damage or injuries and that the operation of the power plant was not endangered. Only a dark trace of the detonation was visible on the tower, and radiation levels remained within the normal range.
The company described the incident as “another act of aggression by the Ukrainian armed forces” against Russian nuclear facilities. Ukraine has not yet commented on the attack. Moscow has previously accused Kiev of similar attacks on nuclear power plants in the Kursk and Smolensk regions.
Kiev, for its part, has repeatedly emphasized that Russia itself is creating radiation risks on Ukrainian territory where nuclear facilities are located, such as the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.
