Transgender man accuses police after being asked for his real name
The Niagara Regional Police are facing a complaint before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal filed by a transgender man named Sabrina Hill, reports the website Life Site News.
He claims that a police officer caused him psychological harm when she asked him for his “deadname”—his name from before his gender transition—during an operation.
Hill perceives this question as intentional degradation and is seeking $30,000 in compensation as well as mandatory training for the police. The police counter that their LGBT training is more than adequate.
According to their own statements, the police officer tried to be respectful and understand Hill's invented identity, including his new pronouns.
