Netherlands cracks down on Chinese chipmaker due to security risks

Chinese semiconductor company Wingtech announced that it would take legal action and seek government support after the Dutch government intervened in the business activities of its subsidiary Nexperia. Nexperia is one of the world's leading manufacturers of basic chips used in the automotive and electronics industries.

The Dutch authorities stated that the intervention was necessary due to administrative shortcomings and concerns about a possible outflow of sensitive technologies to China. The move allows the government to block decisions that could jeopardize national security, while production itself is to continue without interruption.

Wingtech, which is subject to US sanctions, pointed out that control over Nexperia would be temporarily restricted, which is likely to affect the company's operational efficiency. In response, it has begun to consider legal action and is also seeking support at the political level. The company's share price fell by ten percent.

A spokesperson for the subsidiary emphasized that it complies with all laws, including export restrictions. The Dutch side described the action as “highly unusual” and did not rule out the possibility that the case could end up in court.
