Former Russian President and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev stated that a possible delivery of American Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine could have serious consequences for all parties involved—especially for US President Donald Trump.
According to Medvedev, once launched, it would be impossible to distinguish missiles with nuclear warheads from those with conventional warheads. The same argument had also been made in the past by President Vladimir Putin's spokesman.
On the Telegram platform, Medvedev asked how Moscow should respond to such a move with Tomahawks, hinting at the possible use of its nuclear arsenal.
Trump reiterated over the weekend that he could provide Ukraine with long-range missiles if the armed conflict could not be ended. He added that such a move would depend on how the situation developed.
Medvedev responded by saying that this could be a threat that may not materialize—similar to August, when Trump announced the deployment of two nuclear submarines closer to the Russian border.
President Putin warned in this context that the delivery of Tomahawks to Ukraine could seriously damage relations between the United States and Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country would use such missiles exclusively for military purposes.
