Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv with guided bombs on Monday, cutting off power to 30,000 consumers in three districts. The attacks also hit a hospital, injuring four people. According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, the explosions damaged windows and disrupted operations.
The attacks are primarily targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure – the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity. The aim is to cripple the transmission grid before winter. This follows a massive attack last month that affected more than a million households and businesses across the country.
In the eastern region of Donetsk, two people were also killed on Monday when a Russian drone hit their car near the town of Kostyantynivka.
The Russian Defense Ministry also said its troops had captured two new villages – one in the Donetsk region and another near Kupiansk. However, the First Corps of the Ukrainian National Guard said it had repelled a new advance by Russian forces near the town of Dobropillia in the Donetsk region, not far from the important logistics center of Pokrovsk.
