On Thursday, Trump made a surprise announcement that he would meet with Putin in the Hungarian capital to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

Orbán described the meeting as peace-oriented and stated that a possible agreement could open up new economic opportunities for Hungary and the whole of Europe.

Preparations for the summit have already begun with the establishment of an organizing committee. However, an agreement between the US and Russian foreign ministers remains a prerequisite.

Once they have clarified the remaining open issues, the meeting could take place within the next two weeks.

At the same time, Orbán once again criticized the EU for its “pro-war stance” toward Ukraine and called for Hungary to establish its own diplomatic relations with Moscow.
