Moscow wants to build a “Putin-Trump” tunnel – Elon Musk's company is to implement the project
Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev has revived an old dream—a railway connection between Russia and the US through a tunnel under the Bering Strait. According to him, the project, called “Putin-Trump,” has not only economic but also symbolic significance.
According to Dmitriev, the tunnel could connect Chukotka with Alaska, would cost eight billion dollars, and would be completed within eight years. He suggests that Elon Musk's company, The Boring Company, take on the construction.
He presented the idea shortly after a phone call between Trump and Putin, who are planning a summit in Budapest that will focus on ending the war in Ukraine. Similar visions already existed during the Cold War, but they were never realized.
Dmitriev emphasizes that technological advances could help turn the vision into reality this time around. Neither Trump nor Musk have responded to the proposal yet.
