Peskov: Date for Putin–Trump summit not yet agreed
The Kremlin announced on Tuesday that the date for the summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine has not yet been set and no dates have been mentioned so far.
“We currently have no idea when the meeting will take place,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to media reports.
After a phone call with Putin on October 16, Trump announced that Foreign Ministers Marco Rubio and Sergey Lavrov would meet this week to prepare for the summit in Budapest. However, CNN reported, citing a source in the White House, that the meeting had been postponed for the time being because the two sides had different ideas about ending the war.
Peskov said it was “not possible to postpone something that has not yet been agreed upon.” The meeting requires “serious preparation,” which could take more time.
According to Moscow and Washington, Rubio and Lavrov spoke by phone on Monday about the next steps. Lavrov told reporters that they had agreed to continue their telephone contacts.
