Afghan man who killed a two-year-old child is sent for treatment by German court

A German judge has sentenced Afghan citizen Enamullah O. to psychiatric treatment after he attacked a group of people with a knife at a kindergarten in Aschaffenburg in January. A two-year-old child and a man died in the attack.

Investigations revealed that the attacker suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, which is why he was declared mentally incompetent and not sentenced in a traditional criminal trial.

The decision came at a time when Germany is facing increased tensions over migration issues. The incident occurred just one month before the federal elections and became part of the political discourse. The current chancellor, Friedrich Merz, responded by tightening migration policy and introducing stricter border controls.

The attack was one of several violent incidents that have shaken Germany in recent months. These events have strengthened the position of the right-wing Alternative for Germany party, which has risen to the top in some opinion polls.
