Peskov: Meeting between Putin and Trump possible, but not necessary

A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump could be organized quickly, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday. However, such a meeting is not necessary at present, as the focus must be on actively working to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Peskov emphasized that a meeting was hypothetically possible, but that currently “thorough work must be done on the details of resolving the conflict.”

However, the US government later canceled the meeting. The reason for this was a letter from Moscow indicating that Russia did not intend to back down from its demands to end the war in Ukraine.

Dmitry Peskov acknowledged that a meeting between the presidents would only make sense if it were sufficiently prepared and produced results.
