Israeli attack in Gaza violates ceasefire, Palestinian civilian killed
An Israeli airstrike on Sunday killed a man at a market in Gaza, reigniting accusations of violations of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Israel claims the target was a threatening militant, but Hamas rejects the blame and has published its own list of Israeli violations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the continuation of operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip enclaves.
Although the ceasefire agreement in mid-October ended most of the fighting and allowed for the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners, the violence has not stopped. According to Palestinian authorities, 236 people have been killed since the agreement was announced.
The US, which brokered the agreement, has again been called upon to intervene.
Washington has already sent 200 soldiers to southern Israel to monitor the ceasefire agreement and prepare for the possible deployment of international forces.
However, a long-term solution is hampered by fundamental obstacles such as the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
