Poland is reportedly planning to import LNG from the US for Slovakia and Ukraine

Poland is reportedly preparing an agreement on the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the US, which should be directed to Ukraine and Slovakia. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, they could supply four to five billion cubic metres of gas annually - about as much as Slovakia consumes annually.

An official announcement is expected after the transatlantic energy conference in Athens, where they are expected to sign a joint declaration.

Negotiations on specific supplies for Slovakia should then continue. This step would further deepen energy ties between the EU and the United States.

This is another in a series of deals by which Washington is promoting the export of its gas and nuclear technology to Europe. Neither the US nor the Polish ministries have commented on the issue yet.
