Trump revived the topic of nuclear tests. Russia wants an explanation from the US

Russia is asking the United States for an explanation after President Donald Trump ordered the resumption of nuclear tests after more than three decades. The words have sparked concern in Moscow because it is not yet clear whether the tests are nuclear explosives or just missile flight tests.

The Russian Foreign Ministry warns that any such move could have serious consequences and prompt reactions from other states.

In response to the vague US plans, President Vladimir Putin has instructed his advisers to prepare proposals for possible nuclear tests by Russia as well. Moscow last tested nuclear weapons before the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Both countries possess the world's largest nuclear arsenals.
