China massively expands missile production, apparently ushering in a new arms era

Since 2020, China has greatly expanded the infrastructure associated with missile production - from factories to research centres to test facilities.

More than 60 percent of the 136 sites surveyed have expanded, according to a CNN analysis based on satellite imagery and public data.

The newly constructed areas include structures typical of weapons development. Several facilities have been built on the site of former villages and fields.

According to experts, China is in the early stages of a new arms race, while the US is struggling with production shortfalls.
