Denmark reports record number of migrant returns to Syria

In 2025, the number of repatriations from Denmark to Syria reached a record high. Of the 523 people who have benefited from the repatriation programme up to September, 413 have returned to Syria. This is a significant increase compared to last year, when only 94 people chose to repatriate to that country.

Minister for Immigration and Integration Rasmus Stoklund described this trend as positive. "The Syrians who came here about 10 years ago unfortunately stand out from the many incorrect statistics and many of them have clearly had difficulties integrating into Danish society. It is therefore gratifying that many are now deciding to return to their homeland and hopefully start a good life," he noted.

The current repatriation system, which has been in place since 1993, provides financial support of up to €33,000 per adult and €6,700 per child. This amount can cover not only travel costs, but also expenses for business equipment or medical care.

The programme aims to encourage the return of migrants who do not feel integrated into Danish society.
