Fighting corruption is key to Ukraine's financing, says IMF

The International Monetary Fund will shortly launch a mission to Ukraine to discuss its financing needs and a new lending programme.

IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack stressed that Ukraine needs to improve its anti-corruption architecture to protect public funds and improve the business environment. Minimising the scope for corruption is the IMF's main requirement for its donors and continued funding.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has ordered an audit of all state-owned enterprises following a corruption scandal worth some EUR 90 million. Anti-corruption authorities have detained five people and identified two others suspected in a plot to control purchases at the atomic agency Enerhoatom.
