Ukraine secures US LNG imports via Greece for winter

Ukraine has been guaranteed liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the United States via Greece for the period from December to March to cover consumption during the winter. The agreement was announced at a meeting in Athens between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Gas imports will be routed through a pipeline across the Balkans, aiming to replace domestic production that has been damaged by Russian attacks on energy and gas facilities.

Kiev has earmarked nearly two billion euros from European and domestic sources for gas purchases, and is also negotiating financing with US partners.

The move follows an EU-approved ban on imports of Russian liquefied natural gas from 2027. According to the Greek government, the deal will help curb Russian gas on the European market and strengthen the region's energy resilience.
