Kallas warns of hybrid attacks, EU must respond together
European Union diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas described hybrid attacks as a serious threat to the Union and called for a common and balanced approach.
"The recent attack on the Polish railway line to Ukraine highlights the unprecedented risk to Europe's transport infrastructure and the need for better protection," Kallas said.
She warned that Russia was not only trying to test the limits of the EU's response, but also to spread fear in society. She therefore called for unity and a strong, but not excessive, stance. She added that the ability of the European armed forces to react quickly is essential for the defence of the region.
Incidents such as airspace intrusions and cyber-attacks must not become the new normal, she said.
Europe should, she said, make it clear to Russia that attacks will not go unanswered, while at the same time reassuring citizens that they are safe.
