US, Ukraine and EU hold talks in Geneva on Trump's peace plan

Important negotiations on US President Donald Trump's controversial plan to end the war in Ukraine got underway in Geneva over the weekend. The proposal, which is also backed by Moscow, calls for Kiev to cede territories, limit its military forces and renounce joining NATO.

Trump has given Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky until Thursday to approve the plan. But he warns that accepting such terms could mean losing both national dignity and key American support.

Advisers from France, Germany and Britain have also joined the negotiations. Diplomats say European leaders are working on an alternative deal that would be more acceptable to Kiev.

A draft has already been sent to both Washington and Kiev.

Russian President Vadimir Putin has described the plan as a potential basis for a solution, but Moscow has reservations about the demand to withdraw from some occupied territories.

A final agreement is expected to emerge after Trump meets with Zelensky in person, according to the US.
