Poland detains Russian suspected of cyberattacks on local firms

Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński announced that police in Krakow have arrested a Russian citizen suspected of illegally interfering with the IT systems of Polish companies.

According to his statement, the accused allegedly broke security features on Platform X, gained access to databases and tampered with data, for which he was temporarily taken into custody.

Poland, like other European countries, has significantly tightened its surveillance of subversive activities from Russia following the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Warsaw has repeatedly warned that Russia is trying to destabilize infrastructure and society with hybrid tools. Moscow, on the other hand, rejects all accusations, speaks of "Russophobia" and claims that Poland is deliberately escalating tensions.
