Russia sentences eight men to life in prison for Crimean bridge attack
A Russian court has handed down life sentences to eight men for the October 2022 bombing of a Crimean bridge. The blast severely damaged strategic infrastructure, killed five people and temporarily disrupted supplies to Russian troops fighting in Ukraine.
TASS news agency reports that these are the harshest sentences related to the incident to date. The Ukrainian secret service later claimed responsibility, further deepening tensions between Moscow and Kiev.
The bridge connecting annexed Crimea to Russia was a key logistical hub. Russia considers the attack an act of terrorism, while Ukraine calls it a legitimate intervention in the war.
