Kazakhstan condemns Ukrainian drone attack on CPC pipeline terminal

Kazakhstan on Sunday sharply criticised Ukraine for a drone attack on a Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) Black Sea terminal that provides more than one per cent of the world's oil supplies. The incident took place near the Russian port of Novorossiysk.

The CPC consortium announced on Saturday that it had to suspend operations after the attack as one of the berths at the terminal was severely damaged by a Ukrainian naval drone. Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry subsequently protested "another deliberate attack on the critical infrastructure of an international consortium."

"This incident represents the third act of aggression against a purely civilian facility whose operation is protected by the norms of international law," the ministry said. Kazakhstan is the main oil supplier for the CPC pipeline, which runs from the Tengiz field on the Caspian Sea to the Black Sea coast.
