Maduro's safe escape plan falls apart, Trump insists on ending it
US President Donald Trump has rejected Nicolas Maduro's demands for safe passage out of Venezuela, severely limiting the Venezuelan leader's options. According to informed sources, the phone call took place on 21 November and lasted less than 15 minutes.
Maduro demanded full amnesty for himself and his family, the lifting of US sanctions and a halt to the International Criminal Court investigation. He also proposed that the interim government be led by Vice President Delcy Rodriguez until elections are held.
However, Trump rejected most of his demands and gave him seven days to leave the country. After that deadline, the US closed its airspace.
Caracas is now demanding a new interview with Trump.
The Trump administration still does not recognise Maduro as a legitimate president and has increased the reward for information leading to his arrest to $50 million.
