Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a "long and substantive phone call" with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. He participated in the call along with Ukrainian Chief of General Staff Andriy Khnatov and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov.

"I am grateful for a very focused and constructive discussion," Zelenskyy wrote on the X network, adding that they discussed "many areas and went over key points that could ensure an end to the bloodshed and remove the threat of a new large-scale Russian invasion."

Eliminating the risk of Russia reneging on its promises was also discussed.

The Ukrainian leader affirmed that his country "is determined to continue to work in good faith with the American side to genuinely achieve peace". To this end, they agreed on the next steps and formats for negotiations with the United States.
