Thailand and Cambodia end fighting, sign ceasefire after 101 casualties

Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate ceasefire after 20 days of intense fighting on their shared border that has left at least 101 people dead and displaced more than half a million.

The conflict reignited in early December after the collapse of a previous agreement brokered by US President Donald Trump.

Fighter jets, missiles and artillery were used in the clashes - making it the fiercest armed incident between the two countries in years.

The new agreement, signed by the defence ministers of both countries, bans any further troop movements. Stakeholders warn that any reinforcement of positions could seriously jeopardise peacekeeping efforts.

The statement was posted by the Cambodian side on social media.
