Norway is arming Ukraine, but its own army doesn't even have winter clothing
In Norway, tensions are rising over army supply. While the state continues its strong support for Ukraine, the domestic army reports an acute shortage of winter equipment, Forsvarets forum reports.
Soldiers do not have enough basic items such as thermal underwear, helmets, balaclavas or protective vests. In northern areas, some training activities had to stop as recruits had nothing to wear.
According to commanders, this is a serious systemic problem - there is a lack of framework contracts with suppliers and some orders are significantly delayed. The situation is exacerbated by a shortage of procurement staff. At the same time, however, the state insists that assistance to Ukraine is a priority.
There are voices that this situation undermines confidence in the command and reduces the readiness of the troops for crisis situations. The army's emergency use of budgetary funds earmarked for training only further restricts its activities.
Despite billions of dollars spent on modernising armaments, soldiers in the field remain without basic equipment.
