None of the UK's hospitals protect biologically female spaces
Britain's NHS system has faced a wave of criticism for continuing to allow trans-identifying people access to spaces according to their own identity designation. This is despite a Supreme Court ruling that explicitly defines the term "woman" in the Equality Act as a biological sex, the Telegraph reports.
The audit found that none of the 190 hospital providers in England guarantee biologically unisex facilities for women. Most hospitals follow outdated guidance from 2019, which remains in place despite the government's pledge to overhaul the rules.
Critics, including shadow equalities minister Claire Coutinho, accuse the NHS of putting ideology before the law, which they say threatens the safety and privacy of patients and staff.
The government has still not published new recommendations from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to ensure compliance with the law in practice.
