Bolsonaro undergoes surgery for persistent hiccups

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro underwent a special medical procedure to curb persistent hiccups.

According to his wife Michelle, doctors blocked his right phrenic nerve and scheduled a new procedure 48 hours later to block the left nerve.

Bolsonaro is also in the hospital recovering from a recent lane surgery. He has been allowed to stay out of prison by the Supreme Court, which in September sentenced him to 27 years for trying to overturn the 2022 election results.

During his hospitalization, he publicly endorsed the presidential ambitions of his son, Flavius.

The ex-president has had long-term health problems since the 2018 assassination attempt, when he was stabbed during the campaign - he has since undergone multiple abdominal surgeries.
