Three dead and tens of thousands without power. Storm hits northern Europe
Severe winter storm Johannes hit northern Europe, causing widespread damage and tragedy. In Sweden, three people died - two were killed by a falling tree, one was a worker at an energy company and died in the field, reports Barron's.
Thousands of households in Sweden, Norway and Finland were left without electricity, the BBC reports. The storm disrupted air, rail and ferry services.
On Finnish soil, high winds caused incidents at Kittilä airport - one transport plane and one smaller machine were pushed into a snowdrift by the wind. Firefighters in Norway registered hundreds of call-outs.
According to meteorologists, the situation remains tense, but in Finland the winds have gradually calmed down. No injuries to passengers are reported.
Energy companies have warned that repairs could take several days.
