Trump increased his own dose of aspirin. He wants "thin blood," he claims

US President Donald Trump admitted in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he takes 325 milligrams of aspirin a day, which is more than the dose recommended by doctors. He claims he wants to have "thin blood" to prevent heart problems.

But the move has also attracted attention because of his age - Trump is 79 and one of the oldest presidents in US history.

His health has been heavily debated in recent months - bruises have appeared on his arms and he has undergone a CT scan, which his doctor Sean Barbabella said showed normal results.

The White House says the bruises are the result of shaking hands and the CT scan was only precautionary. Trump has also faced questions about instances where he closed his eyes during public appearances.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a daily dose of low-dose aspirin can help prevent a stroke, but the standard is 81 mg a day.
