The US has significantly reduced proposed tariffs on Italian pasta
The Italian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that the United States had significantly reduced proposed tariffs on its products after reviewing the activities of several Italian pasta producers.
In October, the United States announced that 13 Italian pasta makers would be subject to an additional 92 percent tariff on top of the normal 15 percent rate on most EU imports from January 2026 - and accused two producers in particular, La Molisana and Garofalo, of selling pasta at unreasonably low prices.
After a review, however, the U.S. Commerce Department reduced the duty for La Molisana to 2.26 percent, while the rate for Garofalo was set at 13.98 percent, the Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to data from the National Statistics Office, Italy's total pasta exports will be worth more than 4 billion euros in 2024.
