Videos on Poland's EU exit trigger TikTok investigation in Brussels
The European Commission has confirmed an investigation into the videos posted on TikTok, which, according to the Polish authorities, bear the hallmarks of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at triggering the so-called Polexit, i.e. Poland's departure from the Union. RMF24 writes.
According to Polish government spokesman Adam Szłapka, the videos are Russian propaganda, and allegedly contain linguistic features typical of the Russian language and are contrary to Poland's interests.
The Commission wants to examine whether this content violates the rules of the Digital Services Act (DSA), which obliges large internet platforms - such as TikTok - to proactively identify and address risks, including those related to artificial intelligence.
In an appeal to Brussels, the Polish Deputy Minister warned that the content in question threatens public order, information security and democratic processes in Poland and across the Union. The European Commission has already contacted the Polish authorities and is gathering information to verify compliance with the legislation.
As early as March 2024, the Commission asked TikTok for information on measures to counter the risks arising from the use of artificial intelligence on the platform.
