FBI thwarts young man's ISIS-inspired New Year's Day attack
The U.S. Justice Department announced Friday that it had foiled an alleged plan by a North Carolina man to carry out an Islamic State-inspired attack using knives and hammers on New Year's Eve.
Christan Sturdivant, 18, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, was charged with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, according to a department statement. He has not yet commented on the charges.
FBI agents searching Sturdivant's home found a handwritten document titled "New Year's Day Attack 2026" that allegedly mentioned a plan to stab up to 20 people and attack intervening police officers.
