Starmer: We will shed no tears for the Maduro regime

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he is pleased to see the end of President Nicolás Maduro's rule in Venezuela. He wishes for a smooth transition to a government that better reflects the will of the Venezuelan people.

"We regarded Maduro as an illegitimate president and we shed no tears over the end of his regime," Starmer said in a statement published on the British government's website.

"The British government will be discussing the evolving situation with our US partners in the coming days as we seek a safe and peaceful transition to a legitimate government that reflects the will of the Venezuelan people," he added.
