Trump doesn't believe Ukraine attacked Putin's residence
US President Donald Trump has said he does not believe in the veracity of Russia's claims about an alleged Ukrainian attack on President Vladimir Putin's residence. According to Moscow, the incident was supposed to have taken place in the Novgorod region in northern Russia, where Ukraine had deployed 91 long-range drones.
"I don't believe that attack happened," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on his return to Washington. "Something happened fairly close, but it had nothing to do with this."
Russia is presenting that it has evidence of Kiev's attempt to target Putin's villa and plans to hand it over to the United States. Ukraine rejects the accusations, calling them a disinformation campaign. Several Western officials also dispute that Putin himself was the target of the attack.
U.S. security officials, according to the Wall Street Journal, said that while the attack may have occurred, the president's residence was not the target.
The White House chief, who met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky just days before the incident, suggested that the Russian claims may be an attempt to undermine Kiev's relations with Washington.
