Machado says she hasn't spoken to Trump since October
Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado says she has not spoken to US President Donald Trump since last October.
"I actually spoke to President Trump on October 10, the same day the (Nobel Peace Prize) was announced, not since then," Machado said on Fox News' "Hannity."
She was awarded the prize for her fight against what the Norwegian Nobel Committee called a dictatorship.
Machado, who is widely regarded as the most credible opponent of ousted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, left Venezuela last month to travel to Norway to accept the prize. She has not returned since.
"I plan to return home as soon as possible," she told Fox News when asked about her plans to return to Venezuela.
This was Machado's first interview since the U.S. launched attacks on Venezuela on Saturday and captured its president. Machado hailed the U.S. action as "a great step for humanity, freedom and human dignity."
Trump, meanwhile, on Saturday rejected the idea of working with Machado, saying she "does not have support or respect within the country."
