US and Europe discuss military presence in post-war Ukraine

Representatives of the US, European countries and NATO are meeting in Paris to finalise security guarantees for Ukraine after the end of the war, Bloomberg reports.

Under the proposals, U.S. troops could be involved in overseeing a possible cease-fire, either through intelligence support or physical presence. There is also talk of deploying a multinational "reassurance force," while front-line defense would remain with the Ukrainian military.

Ukraine is demanding guarantees for up to 50 years; current proposals envisage a 15-year period with the possibility of extension. US presidential envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are also involved in the negotiations.

The key challenge remains the Donbas issue, where Russia is demanding the complete withdrawal of Ukrainians, which Kiev rejects. It is not yet known whether Russia will accept the proposals.
