Bar in Crans-Montana has not passed inspection since 2019
The Swiss bar "Le Constellation" in Crans-Montana, which was engulfed in a fire during the New Year celebrations with a tragic balance of 40 victims, has not undergone any security checks since 2019.
The mayor of the town, Nicolas Feraud, admitted at a press conference that the authorities were unaware of the lack of checks. The foam soundproofing used inside was deemed compliant at the time of installation.
According to the prosecutor's office, the fire was probably caused by sparklers that ignited the ceiling in the basement. In response to the tragedy, the city banned the use of sparklers in all indoor areas.
