Greenland belongs to its people, European leaders say
The leaders of Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Italy, Poland, Spain, France and the United Kingdom issue a joint statement on the Greenland issue.
In it, they stressed that Greenland, under the leadership of Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, belongs to its inhabitants and that the decision on its future belongs solely to Denmark and Greenland.
The leaders also reported that security in the Arctic must be collective and part of a wider cooperation within NATO, including the US. The Arctic was identified as a key priority for both European and transatlantic security.
The declaration also reaffirmed the commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, in particular sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.
