Zelensky calls for new talks with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is seeking new talks with US President Donald Trump, whose influence he believes could help put pressure on Russia. Ukraine is facing pressure from the US to conclude a ceasefire, but at the same time is demanding long-term security guarantees.
Key obstacles remain Moscow's demands for the cession of parts of Donetsk and control of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which Kyiv rejects.
Zelensky confirmed that Washington had proposed an economic zone in exchange for territorial concessions, which are also being discussed in Paris. However, any compromises would have to be decided by referendum.
Zelensky also pointed out that the US has tools to put pressure on Putin's allies, such as Chechen leader Kadyrov.
On the issue of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Kyiv proposes joint management with the US, which would share the energy produced.
At the same time, Zelensky is calling on allies to translate their commitments into legally binding agreements, not just statements.
