Trump: US oversight of Venezuela could last for years
In an interview with the New York Times, US President Donald Trump suggested that US oversight of Venezuela could last for several years. He emphasized that the goal is the "profitable restoration" of the country, with plans to extract Venezuelan oil, reduce its price, and thereby provide financial support to Caracas.
Trump also praised the current cooperation with interim President Delcy Rodriguez and presented a plan to process 50 million barrels of oil that had previously been blocked by US sanctions.
According to him, this step shows that Washington and Caracas are moving closer together after the arrest of Nicolás Maduro.
According to the president, the United States is getting "everything it needs" from the Venezuelan government, which suggests a new strategic partnership.
