Venezuelan minister: One hundred people died in the US attack
Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said that up to 100 people were killed in the US attack that overthrew President Nicolás Maduro. This is the first specific figure on the number of victims, as Caracas had previously only reported a list of 23 fallen soldiers.
According to Cabello, members of Maduro's security detail were killed "in cold blood." Cuba claims that it lost 32 of its intelligence agents and soldiers operating in Venezuela during the intervention.
Maduro suffered a leg injury during the attack, and his wife, Cilia Flores, suffered a head injury—both were detained.
After the US intervention, Delcy Rodriguez, whom Cabello described as "courageous," became interim president. On Tuesday, she declared a week of mourning in memory of the fallen members of the army.
