Trump says Venezuela does not set a precedent for Taiwan

US President Donald Trump has stated that Taiwan's future depends on the decision of Chinese President Xi Jinping, but warned that any attempt to disrupt it would greatly concern him.

In an interview with the New York Times, he said that although Xi considers Taiwan part of China, he does not anticipate aggressive action against the island during the Trump administration. At the same time, he stressed that Taiwan does not pose the same threat to China as he believes Maduro's regime posed to the US in Venezuela.

The Trump administration is trying to prevent conflict with China by strengthening the military presence of the US and its allies in the region.

The Chinese embassy has again declared that Taiwan is an internal matter for China. Although the US does not officially maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan, it legally provides it with defense assistance.
