Meloni: US military intervention in Greenland would threaten NATO unity
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni does not believe that the United States will use force to gain control of Greenland. She responded to speculation that arose after the weekend's US operation in Venezuela at a New Year's press conference.
According to Meloni, such a move could seriously threaten NATO's stability. At the same time, she stressed the need to strengthen the alliance's presence in the Arctic, including Greenland, to prevent interference from other global actors.
She assured that a military solution would not be in the interest of any party—not even the United States itself.
As a close ally of US President Donald Trump, she warned that any action against this autonomous territory would have far-reaching consequences. She also pointed out the growing strategic importance of the Arctic.
