Prosecutors investigate Polish teacher who threw a cross in the trash

The Polish prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into a possible attack on the religious feelings of students after a teacher at a primary school in the village of Kielno took a cross off the wall during class and threw it in the trash. The woman has already been suspended.

The incident took place on December 15 during an English lesson. According to Polish media reports, the teacher first asked the pupils to remove the cross, and when they refused, she did it herself, Polskie Radio reports.

The protest in front of the school was supported by members of the conservative opposition and far-right parties. Education Minister Barbara Nowacka described the protests as politically motivated and called for calm and respect.

Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś condemned the incident, saying that such behavior has no place in school. Meanwhile, a new cross has been placed in the classroom and the students have been provided with psychological support. The minister emphasized the need for tolerance and peace in the school environment.
