Barrack: Fighting in Aleppo threatens SDF agreement with Damascus

US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack described the recent clashes between Kurdish forces and government forces in Aleppo as "deeply troubling." According to him, the incidents threaten the March 2025 integration agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the government in Damascus.

"We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, immediately cease hostilities, and return to dialogue," Barrack said after meeting with the Syrian president and foreign minister.

Barrack added that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's team is ready to mediate contact between the two sides. The goal is to resume negotiations and move forward with the integration that the agreement was supposed to ensure.

Dozens of Kurdish fighters left Syria's second-largest city, Aleppo, on Saturday, according to Reuters sources. The Syrian army also announced that it is continuing to work on "cleaning up" the remaining group of militants after the ceasefire failed to end several days of deadly fighting.
