Ukraine asks UN for tough measures after Oreshnik missile attack
Ukraine expects the UN Security Council to take concrete measures against escalating Russian aggression. This is in response to the latest massive attack in which Russia used an Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile.
According to Ukraine's representative to the UN, Andriy Melnik, it is no longer enough to condemn war crimes—it is necessary to force Moscow to make peace based on the principles of the UN Charter. Ukraine also appreciated the support from UN Security Council members such as the United Kingdom, France, and Denmark.
An extraordinary meeting of the Council is scheduled for January 12, according to the Ukrayinska Pravda portal.
On January 9, the Russians carried out 278 air strikes, including 36 with missiles and 242 with drones. Kyiv warns that the Oreshnik missile attack in the Lviv region near the EU and NATO borders poses a serious threat to European security.
President Volodymyr Zelensky and Minister Andriy Sybiha are therefore calling for a tougher response from Western partners.
