Russia expelled a British diplomat, labeling him a spy

Russia expelled a British diplomat whom it accused of being a secret agent for MI6. According to Russia's FSB, he was the second secretary of the British Embassy, who allegedly operated under diplomatic cover.

Moscow gave him two weeks to leave the country and summoned the British chargé d'affaires to convey a formal protest.

The Foreign Ministry also warned that if London escalates the situation, the response will be a mirror measure. Demonstrators gathered in front of the ministry's headquarters with anti-British slogans.

Tensions between Russia and the West are intensifying in the context of the war in Ukraine, with both sides accusing each other of unprecedented espionage.

Moscow claims that Western services, including MI6, the CIA, and the DGSE, are trying to obtain secret information and undermine Russian society. Conversely, Western officials blame Russian services such as the FSB, SVR, and GRU for a series of cyberattacks and sabotage.
