Costa: EU prepares response to Trump's tariff threats

The European Union is preparing a response to threats from US President Donald Trump, who plans to impose tariffs on European allies in retaliation for their disagreement with his interest in Greenland.

European Council President António Costa said on Saturday that the Union would "defend international law very firmly," noting that this applies in particular to the territories of member states.

At a press conference after the signing of the free trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur, Costa confirmed that he is coordinating a joint response by member states to Trump's tariff threats. He also stressed that the Union is acting in a unified manner and consistently defending its interests.

The response comes shortly after President Trump promised retaliatory measures for the EU's stance on the issue of territorial integrity in the Arctic. Tensions between Washington and Brussels are thus rising again.
